We’re at the women’s Chocolate Co-operative in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic.
I’m working in a chocolate factory
And the idea here when I’m making chocolate
is to get as much on your hands as possible
so that you can lick them later
I’m making candy man!
We have just made a chocolate mould.
Look at it.
I’m scraping the chocolate off.
The chocolate is a perfect 32 degrees
I’m taking out the air bubbles now.
I am not a good chocolate maker.
You’re a good chocolate eater.
I’m a very good chocolate eater though.
Two chocolate thumbs up.
I think she told me I’m hired.
We’re learning how to separate the coco beans here.
Some of them are good.
Some are bad.
And this is all done by hand.
Every single day.
So It’s pretty labour intensive and you gotta know what you are looking for.
Step number two is picking out all the shells
And all the stuff you wouldn’t want
In Your chocolate.
So we had a great time here at the
Women’s Chocolate CoOperative
Learning how they make chocolate
Sell it and make a living.
It’s a great way for you to give back
When you come on a vacation to the Dominican Republic.
